Bob Dylan - As I Went Out One Morning (John Wesley Harding)

As I went out one morning
To breathe the air around Tom Paine's,
I spied the fairest damsel
That ever did walk in chains.
I offer'd her my hand,
She took me by the arm.
I knew that very instant,
She meant to do me harm.

"Depart from me this moment,"
I told her with my voice.
Said she, "But I don't wish to,"
Said I, "But you have no choice."
"I beg you, sir," she pleaded
From the corners of her mouth,
"I will secretly accept you
And together we'll fly south."

Just then Tom Paine, himself,
Came running from across the field,
Shouting at this lovely girl
And commanding her to yield.
And as she was letting go her grip,
Up Tom Paine did run,
"I'm sorry, sir," he said to me,
"I'm sorry for what she's done."

thats a common myth, its actually from his Uncle Dillon. he stated in an interview that it's nothing to do with Dylan Thomas. Easy mistake, he's still a God

gee, don't anybody else here know how Pissed OFF! Dylan was when the bitch ends her intro with, "I don't have to tell you: Here he is --- HE'S YOURS. . " & [true to form] he sings "all i really wanna do" [maybe?] in Chronicles 1 that he brings up how upset he was, being handed over to the audience, like Public "Piece" of property: Wasn't long before poor D had to dodge the hippies tryin to break into his Woodstock "Retreat" -- to the point a few actually climbed thru windows at nite.

Heard my Dad playing a lot of Bob Dylan since I was a baby. Haven't really understood or even cared for his music and lyrics until my early twenties now. All I can say is wow! What an artist!
